Trusted and innovative addresses in raw Rubroek
The reconstructed neighbourhood is lively once again!
There is a growing commotion in Rubroek! This neighbourhood is adjacent to the city centre, but for a long time had relatively little for ‘day-trippers’ to do. The neighbourhood feels a little unrefined, perhaps because of the solid reconstruction architecture. The Industriegebouw is a good example of this, and this building was one of a few that helped give the neighbourhood a boost. More and more entrepreneurs, residents and visitors are discovering the new appeal of this area, with familiar addresses and innovative arrivals.

Due Tonino
Due Tonino is certainly no newcomer, the Italian restaurant on the Goudsesingel was established in 1991. A reliable address for many. The fresh pastas and pizzas are in great demand, but you can also dine extensively in ‘Italian-style’ with a multitude of Misto Sensazione. As the menu changes every three weeks and a three-course menu costs only € 30, many visitors come back. Above all, it is a warm family restaurant that is run with love.

Het Industriegebouw (HIG)
After WWII there was a great need for work space in Rotterdam. The concept of an ‘industrial building’ was created – collective business accommodation with common areas. The Groothandelsgebouw is the best known in Rotterdam, but the Industriegeouw by Maaskant and Van Tijen is closely related to this. A national monument since 1991, it has recently been shaken awake and is buzzing like never before with (creative) entrepreneurs like MVRDV making good use of the 20,000 m2 of space.

Brood Rotterdam
Walk out of the crowded Meent and onto the Admiraal de Ruyterweg and you will find bakery Brood Rotterdam on a corner on the right. They sell all kinds of bread and sandwiches, and very tasty cakes too. And smoothies. And scones. Enough healthy options, plenty of calories and also excellent service. The two owners put their heart and soul into the hungry stomachs of their guests. And we love going back for the Devils Chocolate!

Kunstuitleen
Rent a work of art! Could your wall use a bit of fun, but are you looking to avoid those dime-in-a-dozen posters? Does your wallet not allow for an art purchase yet? Take a look at the Kunstuitleen Rotterdam. This newcomer to Rubroek – they moved from the Binnenweg to the Goudsesingel in 2016 – has one of the most extensive lendable art collections in the country. From oil paintings to watercolours and from sculptures to photography, there is something for everyone. If you get attached to a rented artwork, you can also buy it!

Groene Passage
For many, the fair-trade shopping centre the Groene Passage on the Mariniersweg has been the main reason for a stop in Rubroek since 1997. In addition to Gimsel supermarket, you’ll find De Groene Weg butcher shop, Aditi beauty salon, interior design store Van Binnen and restaurant Spirit. At Spirit the food is made fresh daily, 100% organic, 100% vegetarian and also very tasty! At Van Binnen you can buy vegetable paint and furniture from ‘good’ wood. Beautiful!
